The Beauty of a Career as a Certified Nursing Assistant

Becoming a nursing assistant can have a bad reputation, but this career choice has endless benefits.

Here are just a few:

It allows you to start working earlier compared to other courses that require certification.

CNAs have been in demand over the last decades, and this demand will continue as a large aging population requires more and more care. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts healthcare assistants to see a faster than average job growth of 9% between 2018 and 2028.

If you want to work in healthcare without tremendous student debt, this is the way to go.

We could list 50 reasons why this is a great career choice but here are just a few of the ones we think are the most important.

You will feel good about yourself and your job choice

There is never a dull moment in this career, especially around the time of a full moon. You will be the hand to hold or the shoulder to cry on for people that have lost the ability to care for themselves. Your professional duties ensure they have a good quality of life which will give you a sense of purpose you will not find in any other qualified job.

You will also be the first face they see in the morning, and your attitude has a significant impact on how the person you’re taking care of feels. You could make their day. In some cases, you will be the last face they see or voice they hear as they depart this world. Even though this sounds like a challenging experience, it might prove incredibly rewarding to know that you took good care of this person during the last years of their life.

Not to mention the endless stories you will hear from your residents about their lives and all of the things they’ve seen and done. Additionally, the holiday spirit never runs thin as all your residents love celebrating the holidays just as much as you probably do.

Work at any time in any city

There are three primary shifts CNAs usually have. The first is 7 a.m. to 3 p.m; the second is 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.; the third is from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. However, it is not too difficult to find just a  half a shift to cover, especially during COVID-19 times.

Another great reason is that you can find a job no matter where you call home. If you relocate, as long as you already have your CNA certification, you will find a facility that wants to hire you.

Opportunity for growth and choice

Being a CNA will allow you to begin a career as a specialized nurse. For example, you could study to become a registered nurse or specialize in fields such as surgery or pediatric care.

But before you take on these other journeys, you will have a chance to become familiar with the healthcare world.

CNAs also can work in different sectors, from retirement communities in a rural state to a major hospital in a big city. CNAs are needed in a broad spectrum of places, from private clinics to assisted living facilities.

Your nursing assistant certification is just one step on your way to obtain your professional license to be a nurse.
